Pastel Rainbow Paw Print Keychain

Hello everyone! Today I will be teaching you how to create an adorable animal paw print keychain. You can view my youtube video on how to make this here:

As always, you’re going to need the following items!

  1. Resin.
  2. Paw Print Mold (I got mine off Etsy).
  3. Pigments or Dyes of Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Green and White.
  4. Hand Drill or Dremel Tool.
  5. Keychain Loop and chain.
  6. Five Small Mixing Cups.
  7. One Normal-sized Mixing Cup.
  8. Popsicle Sticks (or any other stirring tools you use).
  9. Tiny Popsicle Sticks for pigment powders (to scoop with).
  10. Glitter (optional if you want some sparkle to your keychain).
  11.      Glue (I highly recommend using G-S Hypo Cement)
  12. Screw-in Eyelet
  13. Pliers
  14. Most Importantly! Your Keys!

Now that you have all that you need, it’s time to get started!

Steps:

1. Mix, Mix, Mix!

You’re going to mix enough resin for this first pour, this will be for the toes and paw pad in the mold. Make sure to make only a little bit of resin this time. After you’ve mixed it, divide the resin in 5 separate cups (If you’d rather, mix 1 color at a time, but it will take awhile that way). The resin type you have and your pot time (working time before it starts to set) will affect how you go about this. Whether you choose 1 color at a time, or all at once, you will mix your colors into the 5 small cups you have. Glitter is optional if you want your piece to have more sparkle to it.

2. The First Layer.

Once you have your resin colors mixed, you need to very carefully drip resin into the toes and the paw pad of the mold, but be careful not to let the resin overflow. You can wait for the resin to fully cure or just when it gets tacky– You just don’t want the colors to blend with the second layer.

3. The Second Layer

You will now take a normal sized cup of resin and mix your white dye in it (just a drop should do it). Pigment powders or glitter is also an option if you want your piece to be sparkly. After everything is thoroughly mixed together, you will pour your second layer of resin to fill your mold the rest of the way.

4. Demolding Time.

After you’ve waited for the resin to fully cure, you can finally remove it from the mold and see how your piece turned out! Of course, you’re not done yet, but you’re getting there!

5. Drilling and Screwing

You will now take your hand drill (or dremel tool) and use it to drill a hole from where you want the paw to hang from. Next, you need to take your glue and carefully get it down into the hole you just drilled. Pliers may be needed, but now you will carefully screw your eyelet into the glue-filled hole. Depending on what glue you have, you will need to make sure it’s totally dry before continuing.

6. Attach Keychain

Once it is dry, you can now take your pliers and attach the chain of the keychain to the eyelet. The final step now is to attach your key, and then you’re done!

I hope my guide to making this adorable keychain was helpful! Enjoy the rest of your day, and remember! Stay Creative!
