Opal Snowy Earrings (Bonus jewelry later on!)

Hello Everyone! In today’s blog, I will be describing how to make a pair of opal snowy earrings, along with extra jewelry afterwards!

First off, you’ll need to get these listed items:

  1. Teardrop-shaped silicone mold (I found mine on Etsy).
  2. White Liquid and Pigmented Dye.
  3. Opal Glitter (I found chunky, snowy opal glitter on Etsy as well).
  4. Medium-sized Mixing Cup
  5. Popsicle Sticks (Small and Large).
  6. 3 Small Mixing Cups.
  7. Earring Hooks.
  8. Pliers.
  9. Jump Rings.

And, for the bonus pieces you are making, depending what you wanna do with them, you’ll now need these items:

  1. Extra Silicone Molds of Whatever Shape You Prefer.
  2. Stainless Steel Chain.
  3. Keychain Hook.
  4. Glue
  5. Glue-on Bail
  6. Screw-in Eyelet

Now then, with everything you need ready, we can start!

  1. Mixing and Pouring

For this first step, begin by mixing up your resin. Pour as directed into several medicine cups. In the first cup, pour 7.5 ml (1 ½ tsp) of resin; in the second and third cups, pour 20 ml (4 tsp) of resin. Set aside any remaining resin for now.

Add 1 drop of white dye into the 7.5 ml cup and mix it well. Add it one drop at a time into the 20 ml cups until you get the desired depth of color. The more you add, the less translucent your piece will be. Mix your resin well and add pigment powder if you want it to be a shimmery white.

Take your chunky snow glitter and add it into only one of the cups and mix (do not add it to both). When you have both cups ready, take the glittered cup and add a little bit to the bottom of the teardrop mold. After that, you take your plain white resin and add it to the top (this keeps the glitter from sliding up). Use the plain resin to fill the mold to the top, and then let it sit and cure.

  1. Demold your pieces

Wait 1 to 2 days before removing your piece, and then take it from the mold and watch it shimmer!

  1. Jump Rings and Earring Hooks

After your pieces have been removed, you may now take your pliers, and use them to loop the big jump ring to the earring, then loop the little one through the big one. Attach the earring hook’s loop through the little one, then your earrings are done!

But why stop there? If you had extra resin prior to step 2, then definitely take the opportunity to see what else you can make! Depending on what you’ll be wanting to do with the extra, I will provide examples on what else can be done with your extra resin to make different accessories!

1. Necklace

An obvious idea would be for a necklace, but its shape and size is important!

For example, if you wanted a crescent moon, you would either need to drill a hole where you want it to dangle from, or you could glue a glue-on bail on the back of it like I did.

An alternative to making a crescent moon would be to use the same mold that made your teardrop earrings! A hole would already be in the earring, but simply take pliers and add a jump ring through it, then you can loop the chain through that.

2. Keychain

You can even turn these into lovely keychains if you wanted! Instead of looping a chain through any hooks or eyelets, you can attach a keychain hook to it instead.

Whatever you can imagine for using this extra resin for, do it! I hope you all enjoyed reading this guide for making earrings and even more! Have a good day, and stay creative!
